Discipline is freedom
“There is no easy way.
There is only hard work, late nights, early mornings, practice, rehearsal, repetition, study, sweat, blood, toil, frustration, and discipline.”![]() |
Discipline requires early mornings like this (5:15am)Why Discipline is so ImportantDiscipline is freedom. To live a life of discipline is to live an ordered, structured, and ultimately happy life. When you are disciplined, you do what needs to be done regardless of how you feel. There is a certain consistency to your life, and things get done. Progress starts to be made, and when you look back, you realise just how far you’ve come. Discipline is the act of doing the things you said you would do, regardless of how you feel—not once or twice but every single time. When something comes up in your life, you have the discipline to deal with it based on your value system. To live a life of discipline may seem boring and torturous to others, but it is the ultimate freedom. The Art of DisciplineDiscipline is a true art. Do it right, and it becomes a masterpiece. If you do the boring work day in, day out, you will reach success. Discipline is an art because it forces you to be meticulous every single day. This builds consistency in your life. Discipline is not for the weak-hearted; it requires toil, years of hard work, and the diligence to continue in the face of adversity. Over the years, one can accumulate lots of practice in a certain discipline before becoming a master, and only then are they looked at like an 'overnight success'. They are not, but that's what it appears to be—such is the glorious work of discipline. Embracing discipline as an art allows one to narrow their focus and build something great, leading to a meaningful and purpose-driven life. How to live a life of disciplineIt all starts with routine and the desire to shake off mediocrity. To live a life of discipline comes down to the following key factors:
Simply put, it starts with the intention to be better in a certain area of life, and the actions you need to take to get there. Once these are understood, it is important to Just Start, as delaying and waiting never help—sometimes starting is the best thing you can do. Once you have begun, you build a Routine so that it becomes second nature, leading you to feel absent when you do not follow it. A routine allows you to get on the road to success and travel down it. Track progress by analysing your results every week or fortnight, and ensure you are on the right track—this is the best time for adjustments. Re-adjust your plan based on your progress to remove the things that are not serving you and focus more on those that are giving you results—remember the 80/20 rule. Build up some Consistency with this discipline in your life, and freedom will be yours because the Results you once craved so badly are now within touching distance. No matter what has happened, thus far, it's time to stand up and shake off the medicority. Success can be yours, but it is often the small things that compound to make the biggest difference. Be disciplined and be boring - be relentless in the pursuit of your grandest ideals. Ensure you are wise to adjust your path accordingly, and become obsessed with routine. Funny I should say this now, when it was the very thing that hurt me in my younger years. But that's what re-adjustment is all about, and exprience teaches me that routine, now more and ever is vitally important. Shall we track our progress again soon? |
